24 Hours in Budapest – Great Things to do in Budapest

For whatever reason if you are short on time and find yourself in the wonderful city of Budapest make a day of it use the whole day. I don’t believe in going at it so crazy that you’ll need the rest of the week to recover, as none of us have time for that. What I would really recommend is you plan your day the day before so you can maximize your enjoyment and not feel that you don’t have enough time to do the things you really want.

The things to do in Budapest are countless and deciding what to do in 24 hours is a real challenge, but I love a challenge and I love to make the most out of any trip as you may only be there once.

I am most definitely a morning person and love to start my sight seeing early after a delicious and hearty breakfast, however most husband is most definitely not a morning person and would love nothing more than being horizontal for a long as possible.

If you are like me and like to start your day early I would start with a trip to the Jewish quarter. Perhaps an intriguing way to start the day but I feel this is the ideal opportunity to discover about this side of Budapest and get you mind working.  The Jewish quarter is home to the Dohany Street Synagogue, the second largest synagogue in the world. Spend around 30 minutes to an hour here and then get yourself on a bike tour. Take any of your questions about the Jewish quarter and Jewish history in Budapest with you.

You could not fail to see and enjoy a number of the top things to do in Budapest by going on a bike tour. Bike tours allow you to move more quickly than a walking tour and cover a larger area, which is perfect for exploring Buda and Pest.

You won’t feel exhausted but you’ll want a more relaxed afternoon and there seems one magical solution for this, a trip to the famous Hungarianbathouses. Budapest has a fantastic selection of bathhouses spread across the city but the most famous and oldest is located in the city park (on the Pest side). Spend as much time as you need, relax this is all part of the tour.

Now continuing at a slow and relaxed pace there are still more things to do in Budapest, we’re not done yet. I would take a little stroll on and around some of the streets of Andrassy Avenue, find a nice café or bar or if you’re peckish seek out somewhere that does a really nice Hungarian goulash.

The evening also affords a great choice of things to do in Budapest. To continue on the theme of relaxation and the arts I would go to the Hungarian State Opera House on Andrassy Avenue and see an opera, ballet or concert. Be sure to prebook though, your hotel or tourist info can assist you.
